Islamic Terrorism Timeline

11/25/2006

- January 18, 1984: Malcolm Kerr, President of the American University in Beirut, was assassinated by Iran-linked Hizballah (Allah's Party) gunmen.

- January 20, 1984: Iran was declared to be a terrorist nation by the United States. Since 95% of Iran's hard currency comes by way of the OPEC cartel, it means that OPEC was officially a sponsor of terrorism.

- February 6, 1984: West Beirut, Lebanon fell to Muslim militias. What had been the most civil and prosperous Middle East country was now in ruins.

- February 7, 1984: Ali Ghulam Oveissy, former military governor of Tehran, and his brother, were assassinated in Paris by Muslim terrorists.

- March 7, 1984: CNN Bureau Chief Jeremy Levin was kidnapped in Lebanon.

- March 8, 1984: Reverend Benjamin Weir was kidnapped in Lebanon and held for 16 months.

- March 16, 1984: The Islamic Jihad kidnapped, tortured, and later murdered Political Officer William Buckley in Beirut, Lebanon. Other U.S. citizens not connected to the U.S. government were seized over a two-year period.

- March 27, 1984: The "Tanker War" began. Over a period of nine months, 44 ships, including Iranian, Iraqi, and Kuwaiti tankers were attacked by Iraqi or Iranian warplanes or damaged by mines. The U.S. threatened action to preserve navigation in the Persian Gulf but did nothing.

- April 12, 1984: Eighteen U.S. servicemen were killed and 83 people were injured in a bomb attack on a restaurant near a U.S. Air Force Base in Torrejon, Spain.

- April 14, 1984: A booby trap bomb killed U.S. diplomat Dennis Keoughin in Namibia.

- April 17, 1984: Anti-Qadhafi protests in the United Kingdom drew gunfire from the Libyan Embassy, killing a police-woman, and wounding 11. The United Kingdom broke ties with Libya.

- June, 1984: Iran mobilized 500,000 troops and sent them all to the southern front.

- August 15, 1984: The Kurdish Workers Party (PKK), a Marxist Muslim group, launched an attack against Turkish government installations.

- September 20, 1984: Islamic Jihad claimed responsibility for a truck bomb at the United States Embassy Annex in Aukar, Lebanon; 23 were killed and 21 were badly burned and injured including the U.S. and British ambassadors. Two Americans were among those who died in the blast. Iran's Hizballah also vied for credit.

- November 26, 1984: The United States restored relations with Saddam Hussein and Iraq. The U.S. then gave Saddam Hussein chemical and biological weapons, hoping that he would use them against Iran.

- December 3, 1984: Islamic Jihad hijacked a Kuwait Airways Airbus A-300 to Tehran, Iran. Two US citizens were killed. The hijackers include Imad Mughniyah, considered by some to be OBL's "terrorism teacher." The hijackers demand the release of 17 fellow terrorists. Iranian troops stormed the plan but released the hijackers after promising to try them. The two American passengers killed were with the American Agency for International Development. Reagan offers a $250,000 reward for the capture of the Muslim militants who killed the Americans but there are no takers. Nothing else is done.

- 1984: Osama bin Laden moved into Pakistan, co-founding the MAK which is designed to channel weapons from the American CIA to Islamic fighters. Over $250 million per year in American arms were sent from the U.S. government to Afghani and Saudi jihadists. The US is doing the same thing in Iraq today, arming and equipping 250,000 Muslims.
